Who are we?

What is I-Sign?

Launched on 25 June 2009, I-Sign is a two year pilot project that aims to improve the provision and status of British Sign Language (BSL) for the families of deaf and hearing impaired children and young people. It is the largest ever sign language project focused on the needs of deaf children.

Who is involved?

A consortium of deaf charities and educational establishments has been awarded almost £800,000 by the Government's Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) to deliver this project.

They are:

  • Action on Hearing Loss (Formally the RNID)
  • University of Central Lancashire (UCLan)
  • Merseyside Society for Deaf People (MSDP)
  • Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education.
